Roman Forum Augusta Trayana

The antique forum of the ancient Roman town of Augusta Trayana, today Stara Zagora, is one of the brightest historical traces that points far into the history of the city.

Located in the very center of the city, the Forum of the ancient city was found by accident, after construction activities in the area of the Courthouse in the city.

The Forum was located in the southwestern fortified part of the Roman town, the center of the socio-political, economic and cultural life of the town and an important place for discussing the urban problems.

The square is semicircular with preserved pedestal of an imperial statue. To the north of it is situated an Amphitheatrical Auditorium with nine rows of stone seats. The upper part is crowned with an arch-shaped colonnade. Behind it is revealed the southern façade of the Town thermal baths, built in the middle of II century on an area of 7 decares.

Today the Ancient Forum is a stage for many cultural events. Concerts are organized there during the summer months. It is also a favorite place for wedding photos of the newlywed couples.
