Energy efficient heating and cooling

On 01.06.2026, Best Hotels EOOD launched the implementation of a contract under a project proposal entitled “Energy-efficient heating and cooling”, co-financed by the Program “Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises” 2021-2027, under procedure BG16RFPR001-2.004 “Energy efficiency and use of energy from renewable sources in enterprises”

Financing contract number: BG16RFPR001-2.004-1842-C01

Contract duration: 12 months (until 01.06.2027)

Project value: 51,980.12 euros

Funding: 33,787.08 euros, of which 28,719.02 euros EU funding and 5,068.06 euros national funding

Best Hotels Ltd. is the company behind the successful management of Best Boutique Hotel – a modern city hotel in the heart of Stara Zagora, which is distinguished by a personal approach, a high standard of service and a commitment to sustainable development.

Our mission is to provide maximum comfort and satisfaction to our guests, while simultaneously optimizing operating costs and reducing our environmental footprint.

The existing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is morally and physically outdated. Heating is provided by natural gas, and cooling is provided by a depreciated, non-inverter chiller with high energy consumption.

This leads to:

  • significant electricity costs
  • reduced profitability
  • unstable temperature comfort
  • increased CO₂ emissions

The hotel’s restaurant also relies on energy-intensive air conditioning and ventilation systems that do not provide the necessary efficiency during the summer months.

The current project envisages replacement of equipment on floors 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, as well as modernization of the refrigeration in the restaurant.

The investment includes:

  • six high-efficiency air-to-water heat pump units, each with a capacity of 21.1 kW
  • new generation air cooler for the restaurant
  • elimination of outdated chiller and compressor air conditioners
  • significant reduction in energy consumption

Heat pump technology provides high COP/EER values, which allows for savings of at least 30%, and in the restaurant – even greater cost reduction thanks to the new generation of chiller.

The investment has a direct impact on the quality of the stay and the competitiveness of the hotel:

  • Precise and stable temperature control in all upgraded rooms
  • Quiet and reliable air conditioning, increasing guest satisfaction
  • Comfortable microclimate in the restaurant even on the hottest days
  • Increase revenue through better customer experience
  • Reduced maintenance costs and elimination of frequent breakdowns
  • Optimized operating costs through significantly lower power consumption

New systems do not use high GWP freons, which:

  • reduces direct carbon footprint
  • ensures compliance with European regulations on fluorinated gases
  • positions the hotel as “green” and environmentally responsible

Reduced electricity consumption leads to a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions – a key factor for the sustainable development of the tourism sector.

The general goal is a complex increase in the energy efficiency of “Best Boutique Hotel” through the modernization of the cooling, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The project:

  • reduces operating costs
  • improves climate comfort
  • minimizes carbon footprint
  • strengthens the hotel’s market image as modern, sustainable and customer-oriented
